When a group of people get all offended because "their culture is being appropriated," what they are really feeling is frustration at their inability to monetize aspects of their culture for their own benefit while other people who are not of their culture have no problem monetizing said aspects.  It is also important to note that the poorer the culture, the more indignant they're going to feel.  For example, you won't hear a Harvard or Yale student bitching about some other group of people appropriating their preppy style.
