Does the 2 brain hemispheres mean there are 2 consciousnesses/individuals in 1 h

We have two hemispheres in our brain. But when you do a split-brain operation, a complete transection of the corpus callosum, you get clear evidence of two separate consciousnesses. Before that slicing happened, it seemed there was a single unified consciousness.

If it were possible to split the brain in 4 equal pieces, would there be 4 consciousnesses/personalities? And if so, how many times can you do this splicing thing and still have consciousness?

Is marriage trying to unite 4 personalities? Is a threesome trying to unite 6?

Where these the questions that kept God up at night and it drove Him crazy so He blew His brains out in an attemted suicide, thus creating the Big Bang, and the pieces have been trying to reunite ever since then?

If the parts are trying to reunite, then why do we have wars? Is it because everyone wants to be in charge?

One day the different parts of the body were having an argument to see which should be in charge.

The brain said, “I do all the thinking so I’m the most important and I should be in charge.”

The eyes said, “I see everything and let the rest of you know where we are, so I’m the most important and I should be in charge.”

The hands said, “Without me we wouldn’t be able to pick anything up or move anything. So I’m the most important and I should be in charge.”

The stomach said, “I turn the food we eat into energy for the rest of you. Without me, we’d starve. So I’m the most important and I should be in charge.”

The legs said, “Without me we wouldn’t be able to move anywhere. So I’m the most important and I should be in charge.”

Then the rectum said, “I think I should be in charge.”

All the rest of the parts said, “You?!? You don’t do anything! You’re not important! You can’t be in charge.”

So the rectum closed up.

After a few days, the legs were all wobbly, the stomach was all queasy, the hands were all shaky, the eyes were all watery, and the brain was all cloudy. They all agreed that they couldn’t take any more of this and agreed to put the rectum in charge.

The moral of the story?

You don’t have to be the most important to be in charge, any asshole can do it.

I've actually toyed with this thought quite recently. It absolutely does sound like there would be two consciousnesses rendered from this, but how one hemisphere functions without the other isn't fully understood. Although in a case by case basis they are mostly if not entirely physiologically the same, we must have two hemispheres for a very good reason.

No, the brain does not work like that.

Both hemispheres combine to help form our consciousness.

As well as our subconscious.

Which, if you want to know a secret that only us in the Psych field know..

Really controls things!

Your claim of there being clearly shown evidence of two separate consciousness when the brain is bisected is wrong.

Very wrong.

Link, please?

Thanks.

You need to ask Donald Hoffman for the link. He is the one who made the statement.
