No, gun control is like asking people to pass a test and get a license to drive and to ensure their car has brakelights etc for the sake of public safety. Opponents to gun control are like hillbillies who think they have a constitutional right to drive a military tank at top speed with utter disregard for traffic lights, and if the rest of us don't like it then we're all supposed to go out and get our own tanks so we can have one big tank battle to resolve it.

I can't agree more. There is no comparison here and if there is then it would favor gun control. People should be required to take courses and pass a standard safety test to get a gun.

And that not ALL cars are taken away..only a top-fuel dragster that wants to go to a driver to commute in on city streets. (this is my analogy for the ban on automatic weapons.) good one, huh? I don't have a problem with background checks, or prohibiting people with felonies or potentially violent mental disorders to own firearms. However bans on high-capacity magazines, pistol grips, barrel shrouds and other "military style" features I do oppose.

Sane people evaluate to some extent what the consequence of their actions might be before they do them - if those consequences include prison rape, they are often dissuaded.

Putting repeat offenders in jail prevents their future offences - we use laws to put them in jail
A) Just because someone breaks one law does not mean they break all laws - if someone steals does that mean they would also kill? if someone runs a red light does that mean they would also rape? Silly.
B) Lots of people don't break laws BECAUSE there are laws and they would rather not suffer the penalty of breaking those laws.

Drunk driving laws PROTECT sober drivers, as well as tipsy ones. It doesn't work 100%, we don't expect gun control to work 100%. Drunk driving laws have saved many lives, kept crazies off the road MANY times. Hopefully, with 80% of "WE, the people" wanting "reasonable " gun control, it will do the same.

The criminals here pretty much don't have those guns either. There are a large enough quantity of the legal guns that there is no need to go get the guns that aren't on the list. If criminals did have those guns it would actually help the case for banning guns as it could be seen that criminals are using banned guns. Just like in Chicago. People are using banned guns, so people ask to ban it even more. California is fully capable of breaking laws with legal guns.
Well, that's what you get when you have every state with a different idea, and little national regulation. When we have "smaller", more controllable government, and each state making its own rules ( with each change of party), you will have bullshit after bullshit. We still need a central government with national regulation or we will have border to border disputes.
There is plenty of national regulation. There is an entire division of the government that is involved with regulating gun businesses. We have background checks.

The NRA does not "make" any guns. That doesn't mean that they don't "profit" from the industry. Where do they get the money to control Congress? From the ones that DO make the guns. Yes which is exactly what is going on in today's society. To add on, even after all of these terrorist attacks, what is the main focus of Obama? He barely lifts a finger or raises his voice to talk about how we are going to handle ISIS as if he doesn't want to offend them, it's ridiculous. Since we are making a comparison between firearms and motor vehicles I suggest we get rid of all motor vehicles and increase the number of firearms. I believe this would be a significant test in determining how the economy will fair under such conditions.
