Never understood why so much hate for smoking but no hate for alcohol. An alcohol addiction hurts others a lot more than a smoking addiction, especially if you have public smoking bans (no secondhand smoke). Alcohol also leads to long term health issues (like smoking) as well as issues like DUIs, domestic violence, alcohol poisoning. Not even sure why young people have spent so much time and money rallying against smoking when For those aged 5–34 in the United States, motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death, claiming the lives of 18,266 Americans each year http://www.cdc.gov/injury/wisqars/ This doesn't even include other alcohol related deaths such as unintentional injury deaths, alcohol poisoning, assaults, etc. Side: Guilty as charged.

Both my parents smoked and I started when I was 19. 20 a day. I stopped when I was 26. I didn't realise that I had taste buds until I stopped. Food tasted so different and my clothes didn't smell of cigarette smoke any more. That was a long time ago and I haven't had one since. I had a persistent cough which slowly disappeared and afterwards I didn't get so many chest infections in winter that I used to. Side: Hell, no!
Tobacco plants contain high levels of nicotine. If you touch a tobacco plant barehanded, you could get nicotine poisoning. Even without commercial additives, tobacco still contains ~50 different types of carcinogens. No worries. Medical science is actually not as advanced as most people believe. There are more carcinogens in marijuana smoke than tobacco smoke; however, commercial tobacco smokers have a 20 times greater chance of getting cancer while marijuana smokers did not present with any elevation in cancer risk. So... there is only statistical proof that commercial cigarettes cause cancer. No statistical proof for pure tobacco smoke or marijuana smoke. There are many detectable carcinogens in the smoke of all three. Good luck. Side: Guilty as charged.
Oh. Forgot to mention. Since Marijuana smoke has more harmful substances, it damages the lungs more. The higher burning point, deeper inhalation, and subsequent holding of the smoke in the lungs means far greater damage than tobacco smoke. No statistically proven link to cancer, but it is statistically proven to cause many respiratory disorders. Side: Guilty as charged.
