I agree. Talking about other people never gets anywhere. Ideas are the best thing to talk about, their proving and disproving, regardless of their origin.

And of course, the best thing that can be done is to act rather than just talk.

Ex. Politics

What if the things in this case are people that are not really people yet?

Ex. The abortion topic.

What if the people they are talking about is an unproven idea?

You're just applying it to umbrella terms which cover a wide range of topics.

If one was applying it to politics then,

Great people talk about political theory and ideology.

Average people talk about political parties and which one could benefit them.

Small people talk about politicians.

It can also be applied to the other cases.
