Help with potential moral dilema.

If you say something to someone and they get upset and you apologise but they don't accept your apology, do you just move on or try to make it up to them somehow?

I'd say it depends on how much you want them to forgive you.

I'm inclined to say that it depends on how bad the offense was, but if an apology is insufficient then making it up to them is not likely to work.

There is not enough information to be confident in our answers. The seriousness of the topic, potential risks and impacts, extenuating circumstances, even the nature of your friendship, all could have variations to lead us to vote on one side or the other.

But I voted for "move on" because we can't sugar coat every thing we say so we never make anyone upset. Stuff was said. It's probably better that it was said than if you had held your tongue. If the friend doesn't see it that way then move on.

Move on. The best you can do is apologize and if they aren't accepting it than maybe that's just how it's going to be. You can try to make it up to them depending on what it was but if it was something minor and they make it a big deal, I'd say move on.
