What is a marriage license supposed to protect us from?

A gun license is supposed to protect us from crazy people.

A car license is supposed to protect us from bad drivers.

What is a marriage license supposed to protect us from?

Marriage licenses are obsolete.

At one time, hundreds of years ago, the purpose of government regulated marriage was to encourage reproduction.

At the moment, marriage is just a vanity thing. People like getting married, and many of them do not have children.

Others have children out of wedlock.

And Thousands of children are in the foster program.

Marriage serves no purpose these days, and we are evolved enough to recognize this. if you love someone, visit your church and get married. But stop having government get involved.

What about the legal benefits of marriage?

For example, the spouse of a military personnel can live on base with them.

Marriage serves several purposes via granting numerous privileges and rights.

Can any not be considered through private contract?

the spouse of a military personnel can live on base with them.

The problem with this is this is military personnel that is not fighting. Military bases outside of the US should not exist. Military bases within the US can make room for a spouse or loved one through a contract between the military personnel and the military. We do not need a marriage contract for this.

Marriage serves several purposes via granting numerous privileges and rights.

Rights to property and offspring and visitation can be handled by private contract. Allowing government to regulate marriage is bringing in a bureaucratic mess (see gay marriage, animal marriage, and polygamy).

It must protect us from ourselves! After all, isn't it the legal form of "commitment"? It protects us from being weak and walking away from a relationship when things get tough.

If the only thing keeping you together in a tough situation is a marriage license then you shouldn't be together in the first place.

True couples don't really have tough situations. You love and accept each other as you are and live happily together.

I really have no idea..., so I'm just going to go and celebrate mother's day now by trying to make some one a mother ;)

Sexual immorality...men is for women...man is for women..a marriage license is a law of God through Moses and justified of grace by truth by Lord Jesus Christ.

So does Jesus hand you that piece of paper personally?

Or is it his appointed emissary on earth which does that?

From the government?

Marriage seems to bring in more money. :)

Then again, we don't have kids.

Other than that, I regretfully have to agree with the "sexual immorality" bull. To "protect" us from the "wrong people" being married (i.e.: LGBTQ community, and previously interracial marriages!).

Marriage is completely pointless. You either are with the person or you are not.

Rings, hate those things, so uncomfortable. I will never wear a ring. Unless its a Green Lantern ring...

I for one doubt very highly I will ever become "officially" married. There just is no point, it's useless.

A marriage license is a contract with the Government.

both parties entering into a government contract - called marriage, are giving the government permission to distribute the property once the marriage contract has been terminated.

Why would someone want to be married to the government?

The government does not honor marriage and family.
