Free speech violation?

You don't have to agree with someone to support their right to free speech. I don't agree with Republicans or Democrats, but I support their free speech rights. Even contraversial speech is free speech. A judge has ruled against choose life license plates. I find this to be in direct violation of free speech rights. While I have issues with both sides of the abortion and contraception debate, I will still support and defend their right to free speech. Let them say whatever they want it is the persons personal choice if they want to listen to it. It is not the government's place to decide that for us. And this is a violation of of the right to free speech.

They are banning the state from issuing special license plates. Since it is a state sponsored plate, it is different.

The states have to approve the plates and had struck down plates for opposing views.

To allow only one side to have speech and not others violates the first amendment. Either allow all sides to have the speech, or none.

Here is another source.

http://www.cnn.com/2013/01/04/justice/north-carolina-life-plates/

"During the fight to get the bill passed, North Carolina lawmakers voted down amendments that would have created alternatives for abortion-rights supporters such as "Trust Women. Respect Choice,".

"The Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals has consistently ruled that any time the government creates an avenue for private speech, it cannot restrict that avenue to only one side of a contentious debate."

So in this case everyone gets their toys put in time out until they learn to behave.

Oh, and on the wiki page it shows that there is some indecision going on in the courts. 4th circuit and 6th circuit courts held opposite opinions and the 7th circuit said states could be mum about any discussion on abortion plates.

Im not saying the gov has to do this or that, Im saying this is a free speech violation.

Side: Yes.

In this case, I think the Judge made the right decision. There are some exceptions to Free Speech and this case is one of them.
