What happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object

Most people woulod say that from a semantic point of view, if there is such a thing as an irresistible force, then the phrase immovable object is meaningless in that context, and vice versa.

According to modern scientific understanding, no force is completely irresistible, and there are no immovable objects and cannot be any, as even a minuscule force will cause a slight acceleration on an object of any mass. An immovable object would have to have an inertia that was infinite, and therefore infinite mass. Such an object would collapse under its own gravity and create a singularity. An unstoppable force would require infinite energy, which does not exist in a finite universe.

But surely joe must have a different take on the paradox ;)

Add New Argument

When these things meet, they have to figure out how to achieve their goals without affecting the other. The goal of the unstoppable force is to get from point A to point B. The goal of the immovable object is to remain exactly where it is. If these things cannot figure out how to achieve their goals, then there's a paradox. But there's no need for a paradox to exist because it is possible for both of them to achieve their goals.

Assuming that an immovable object existed, then only a force that is smart enough to go around the immovable object could be classified as an unstoppable force since there is no requirement for the unstoppable force to move the immovable object.

Similarly, assuming an unstoppable force existed, then only an object capable of deflecting the unstoppable force in a new direction could be classified as an immovable object since there is no requirement for the immovable object to stop the unstoppable force.

QED;)

Arguably, if you set the point of reference on the immovable object, it will always be immovable as it stays at the centre of the universe while everything else moves about it.

However, since there is no such thing as an immovable object, and every force is unstoppable, this argument has little meaning.
