People are going to double dog dare you and, as you get older, people will try to get you to swallow all kinds of stuff. When in doubt, don't.

It's scientifically proven that swallowing gum shouldn't be done. It's not life threatening to swallow it, but not recommended either.

Large amounts of swallowed gum and constipation have resulted in blocked intestines for children- which is why they should be taught the importance of not swallowing it before young children can chew it.
