There is now an active debate, re best online debate site, and debateIsland.com is getting lots of support. People pretty much agree that debate.org is the worst.

I agree. That will be a win-win solution. Maybe a bit expensive, but certainly avoids the controversy.

DebateIsland is getting better and better, and been getting even more traction. The site I really dislike is debate.org.

I also like and prefer www.DebateIsland.com

I have been debating on it for about a month and it is growing exponentially. It gets lots of traction on debates and community is engaged.
