I will not defend the misdeeds of Ted Kennedy. To compare him to the JFK legacy though borders on the ridiculous. JFK never proved himself. For each success in his short-lived presidency he had a failure. There was no legacy other than dying far too young as the president of the USA in a ghastly dramatic fashion at the hands of a demented alienated loser. Having a young beautiful wife and 2 small children left behind for a country to mourn with added to the JFK mystic.
No, Teddy disgraced himself. He disgraced his children and family. He disgraced the country. He is not the first nor will he be the last to make horrible mistakes in service to this country. Ultimately he did a lot of good for millions of people.
The Kennedys were a polarizing family to Americans. There were/are people who admire them to the point of obessesion and there are people who hated the name and anyone with that name. Both are outliers.
Ted was a man who did bad things and he did good things. He is now dead. Let it go.
I am probably a good person but I haven't taken the time to fill out my profile, so you'll never know! |
