The facts are not up for discussion - I am right and you are wrong.

For some reason CreateDebate doesn't work with youtu.be links. Don't use the share button to get the link, copy it from the address bar on the top. It should be in the format https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYnpJGaMiXo

I tried replacing youtu.be with youtube.con but I can not get it to work.

Guy is dumb. Purpose of media is to show people all of the evil in the world to make people feel bad about how good their own lives are.

The media may exaggerate information at times, but it's to get others to focus on the plights of their fellow human beings and lend a helping hand.

Don't use the media to understand the world, because that's not the intent of the media.

That the purpose of the media is not to accurately portray reality seems to be rather the point that Rosling is making. I fail to see any significant difference between your points and his, certainly not so much difference as to substantiate your claim that he is "dumb".

Because he misses the point of the media. He's telling people not to use the media as an accurate assessment of reality, but who does that anyway?

Side: True.

if this is true, how will we ever know for absolute certain ona fundamental level? obviously no one fundamentally knows anything

The point is not that we can know anything with absolute certainty, but that the media creates a more distorted perception of reality than we might otherwise obtain. If one relies upon the media for their impression of the world then they are more likely to have a more greatly distorted view than they might otherwise have. If one desires to have a relatively more reliable perception of things they have to work for it, which most people simply do not have an interest in doing. It is possible though - identify primary source material, fact check what one hears, network with people from different parts of the world, expose oneself to different ideologies and cultures; in short be critical and curious.

Speak for yourself. You fundamentally know nothing. It's called "willfully ignorant".

Sometimes the pot calls the kettle black and is oblivious to the irony. This is one of those times.

Didn't even watch the video. That statement is something only a fucking idiot would say because he's not open minded and wants to force whatever on whoever.

I would disagree. There are situations in which the facts simply aren't open for discussion because they are overwhelmingly, objectively pointing to one conclusion. Many societies in the West have adopted this bias towards neutrality; this view that every opinion is legitimate to some degree. That's why you find people who are categorically rejecting things such as Climate Change, or the oppression of women.

At some point, we need to point out that not every opinion is legitimate. Sometimes, they simply are wrong.
