But that video really had nothing to do with stress.

It was about Anger and Resentment. Did you even watch it?

As far as Stress being good. That us wrong.

Stress is a killer. Proven. When the human body undergoes stress--either emotional or physical--a hormone called cortisol, which disrupts our homeostasis and also lowers our immune system. It also expedites the aging process.

Another hormone release is adrenaline, which is what kicks-in out fight or flight response. (Dilated pupils; accelerated heartrate; tensed muscles, etc.) While adrenaline us a useful "fuel" in threatening circumstances, too much of it is also hard on the body and can cause fatigue of the adrenal glands' hormone expulsion mechanism.

Anger can be useful so long as it is used as a motivator, and does not turn into rage and get us into trouble or put us at physical risk.

Hope this helps.

OK....so my first two examples were for domestic terrorism.

On a global level, I believe our government--specifically the Reagan Administration--condoned heinous acts which can only be construed as Terrorism, when it supported and even aided the Contras in Central America back in the 1980s.

Face it, amigos, we were on the wrong fucking side in that little dance.

I just thought of another instance where many Americans have condoned Terrorism!

Those brain-dead Anti-Choicers (I refuse to use the term Pro Life) like FromWithin, when the condoned the zealot murderous Anti Choicers who bombed abortion clinics in the USA. Sometimes killing innocent Americans.

Hope this helps!

SS

Many Americans have throughout history condone certain acts of terrorism.

The first instance of this that comes to mind is the KKK lynchings from the late 1800s all the way until the 1960s or so, when the Civil Rights Movement began.

Oh yeah, it was a Democrat who began that. LBJ, with his "Great Society" platform.

Thanks!

While horses are decidedly NOT the descendants of Unicorns, and the fossil record also is bereft of any evidence of that species, we have seen real-life examples of animals with only a single horn.

Thereby, they technically meet the criteria for "Uni-corn."

Granted, most of these animals are simply genetic aberrations--mutations--from an established species that usually sports two horns, or none at all. But still, they are, given there displayed physical trait, Unicorns.

Check out this link to see some of them!

I have used this quote many times before. A few times right here on CD. IN fact, as I recall, I used it as my signature quote when I was a Mod on DDO a couple years ago.

The quote has some accuracy, to be sure. Science DID get us to the moon and also has been largely responsible for our great strides and advancements in technology and medicine and has also enabled us to live much better and healthier and longer lives than ever before.

While religion, while it may have done some people some amount of good, and provided them a measure of solace--in the way of an emotional placebo--has also had among its members thousands of blood-thirsty murderers. Who murdered in the name of their various gods.

This of course includes the Allah worshiping camel fuckers who flew a couple of jumbo jets into the Twin Towers on 9-11.

The world could get by just fine without organized religion. Hell, it might even be better off.

But without science we would not even be having this conversation--no computers or internet!--and our lives would be vastly poorer and more ignorant and also far less healthy and prosperous.

I dunno, man.

I am a proud carnivore and my eyes teared-up big-time just the other night when I was slicing some onions for my fiance's Mexican buffet she did for a dinner party at our place.

I learned the trick is to slice that bad boy under a stream of cool water from the kitchen tap, so as to allow the cascading H2O to suppress the onion's escaping syn-propanethial-S-oxide, which irritates the eyes' lachrymal glands.

The primary and most acute primal urge ANY animal has is to survive and produce progeny.

We homo sapiens are no different.

As far as the "kill" part?

Hmm...perhaps partially. We didn't get to the pinnacle of the food chain by being pacifists. And it IS in our inherent nature to compete with and try to dominate any competitors, especially if they are percieved to be a threat to our abilities to obtain what we need so as to accomplish that first primary urge I mentioned.

So this would be done by any means necessary, up to and including killing.

Make no mistake though, we HAVE evolved somewhat in this aspect, we ARE more civilized and philanthropic than ever before in the history of our species. This fact may surprise some, but it is true nonetheless. I have posted on here before links that show how the world is more peaceful, overall, than ever before in our history.

Why?

Somewhere along the way during our evolution we discovered the benefits of altruism. Of helping others. We learned to look at the bigger picture rather than just to mindlessly hunt and kill, like say a bird of prey or a shark or a lion or tiger does.

When our mind evolved to the point of self-awareness, and we developed our limbic center, and then pre-frontal cortex, we learned to reason and to feel empathy. We also became imbued with emotions. Many biologists and psychologists believe we may be the only species capable of truly feeling emotions and empathy. Or sympathy.

So sure, sex and violence are still a huge part of our psychological make-up. But both those urges have been tempered over the eons.

The Ouija board is a kid's game based on superstition and is comprised of cheap plastic and cardboard.

It is as effective as summoning Hasatan as is a Monopoly Board. Or a Backgammon game.

Actually--come to t'ink of it: A Monopoly Board would have a better chance at getting ol' Lucifer to come-a-callin'.

Why do I say this?

Easy. Cuz we know Money is da root of all Evil.

The alleged movements of the Planchette are caused by what psychologists call the "neuro-motor response."

I could give two shits what Michael Moore predicts.

He is not a professional pollster. I'll put myself up against him in political science savvy any day.

Hillary Rodham Clinton will be the next President of the United States.

She will beat Trump by about 53-45%. With the other 2% being split between the two other Candidates, including the Green Party.

I have a knack for predicting political elections and races. In 2004 and 2008 I won $5000 in a contest with some other Poli Sci guys in my school in a pool to see who could come closest in percentages for election outcome. I used to work as a campaign strategist for my Congressman in Michigan when he ran for r/e back in 2012.

So...yeah, like I say, Moore is wrong. And the race between Trumpy and Hillary ain't even gonna be as close as many think. Guys like Trump, that is, Outsiders who spiel Centrist Populist jingo during the campaign usually see an unexpected low vote percentage on election day. It has to do with the voters deciding to play it safe and go with experience over brash outsiders when it comes to nut-cutting time.

It happened to Ross Perot. It worked for Bush the Younger when he got re-elected, though many were unhappy with the war he got us into. He played the Fear Mongering Card of how we had not been attacked since 9/11. Saying he kept us safe and we should stick with him.

It worked.

Hillary will go along the same lines. Talking about how dangerous the world is right now, and about her vast global politics experience, and her eight years in the White House, and asking us if we really want some inexperienced billionaire with a hair-trigger temper who is used to getting what he wants dealing with foreign hostiles.

And so some of those on-the-fence folks are gonna decide to err on the side of caution. This is enough to get her back in the White House.

Write down those percentages I predicted. Then we will talk again on the day after the election.

Trumpy is far more disliked by the GOP than Hillary is by the DNC. (whose convention begins this tonight, BTW!)

I would say, in fact, that the percentage of Republicans who will NOT vote for Trump is at least triple or quadruple the percentage of Dems who will boycott Clinton.

Here's the thing, Erving: Any liberal Dem who was gonna pull the lever for Bernie will most likely just suck it up and vote for Hillary. As they know she is a far more palatable choice to them for POTUS than Trumpy.

But this cannot be said for GOP voters who liked Cruz or Carson or Rubio. I bet most of those guys won't vote for Trump.

But as far as changing sides, that's not how it usually works. Only Independents usually do that, as in: maybe they voted for Obama in 2012 and now they are sick of Social Democracy and they hate Obama Care so they're gonna go with Trumpy, since he has promised to repeal it if he gets into the White House.

A true loyal Party Member does not switch sides. They usually go Independent, or not vote at all. Or go with a 3rd or 4th Party Candidate who might siphon off a few thousand votes from their Opposing Party, be it the DNC or the GOP.

this is true. Also it is more accurate to say that those useless vestigial physical traits don't "go away" so much as they are replaced by more useful traits, making the organism (in this case us) more efficient, since we do not have to provide calories (food) to anything that doesn't help us survive and procreate.

1 point

I don't know that we are devolving so much as I feel were not improving. We are the same being as we were with Adam and Eve.

Well, I DO know that we are not devolving, as I explained in an earlier post above: it is a biological impossibility. A species either continues to evolve so as to remain highly-adaptive and controlling of its specific environment, or it becomes extinct. This is why a full 99% of ALL species that ever lived on this planet are now gone for good.

And Adam and Eve is a fictional couple from an allegorical fable from an old antiquated book of Hebrew Mythology. Thus....their story does not belong in a debate on a scientific topic such as Evolution.

I don't know that we are devolving so much as I feel were not improving. We are the same being as we were with Adam and Eve.

No, we don't. At least not in most of the world, where we now have governments with at least partial democracies where the people, no matter how poor or destitute, can cast a ballot that counts just as much as the vote of a millionaire. One vote! Back in ancient times there was no such thing, until the Greeks invented Democracy. At one time, it was the strongest tribes who called the shots.

Sporting events which took place in arenas are still done so today. Some of the events in the past were brutal as if modern-day man doesn't have cage matches.

Are you really going to try and compare a sanctioned UFC fight with rules to a fight with Roman Gladiators who fought to the death? Or with Christians being torn to pieces by wild animals in Roman arenas filled with cheering crowds? This is absurd. Just as it always makes me laugh when some football nut calls NFL players Gladiators. LOL.

They have always been the wealthy and no different in modern day times the wealthy and the poor.

Yes there has always been welathy and poor. But today we see sometihng called the MIddle Class, and depsite whining that it is shrinking, it is still bigger than it has ever been. And for most of mankind's history, a middle class was non-existent. The idea of a peon or a slave (which we also no longer allow!) being able to write their congressman back then was total fiction, and was deemed to be ab impossible action. Today it happens every day. The wealthy today also pay more taxes than ever before, with the top 10% of earners paying more than half of all the taxes. The rich also often create jobs, and in the past they did not do this nearly as often. They had slaves!

...based on our human relationships it seems we have not progressed almost at all.

Wrong again. The planet is more peaceful now than ever before. Google this yourself if you doubt me. Things like slavery and like kings being able to kidnap the new bride of a peon for fornication on the night before her wedding are long gone.

We have welfare and voting and medical care and technology and an abundance of food in all of our industrialized economies. And rich countries often join in global efforts to assist poor ones. This was NEVER done or even heard of for the first 90% of the time mankind has been around. The world is cleaner and safer and richer and more peaceful and smarter and more altruistic today than EVER before. You don't know this because obviously you don't read your history. And of course you weren't around then.

Again....I invite you to research for yourself anything I have claimed. And let me know if you need links to prove anything I have claimed here. Or if I can answer any questions for you.

exactly correct.

and in due time we homo sapiens will see our few remaining vestigial traits disappear. (If we survive long enough and do not destroy ourselves first.)

Body hair; tailbones; nipples on men will all disappear but it will probably take a few thousand more generations.

Our fight or flight response will likely remain intact, as it is still useful. Well, mostly useful. One aspect of it may disappear. Ya know how when you get scared or enter fight or flight one of the things that happens--along with increased HR, pupil dilation, and adrenaline release--is that your hair stands on end?

Know why?

This was from when we had fur--it was a trick to make us appear bigger and more intimidating to our enemies. So since we have not needed this particular physiological response in approx. 65,000 years--when we we about 70% as hirsute as one of today's apes--I think it is only a matter of time before it is selected out, genetically.

SS

1 point

No, we are certainly not devolving, as it is a biological impossibility.

A species will die out and become extinct before devolving.

So, yeah, amigo............

We are STILL evolving, as a matter of fact. Although the process is so slow that in your entire lifetime you will not see a trace of it among our homo sapien species. Far from it. It's been a full 50,000 years or so since we split-off from the Neanderthal branch of hominids--back in Northern Europe when we both met-up there after leaving Central Africa around 65,000 years ago.

And you might not be able to tell the physical difference of one of your ancestors from even way back then, if we cleaned him up a bit and groomed him and put regular clothes on him. It's been a good 100,000 years since we have undergone any real significant and noticeable physical changes.

So...100,000 years. How many generations is that? If we consider a generation to be 50 years, its about two thousand, right? So you would say "my great great great great great great......." two thousand times to reach all the way back there!

And even this is a mere drop in the bucket in geological and anthropological time. It's like a few seconds out of a full 24-hour day if the age of the Earth was condensed to being one day long.

You might be referring to devolution in a moral sense? And because of all of our values breakdowns and violence and wars?

Well, this too is wrong. We have evolved morally as well. More laws and rules and political correctness and altruism and societal rules than our early ancestors could have ever dreamed of! The Earth is also more peaceful now than it has been for most of our documented history. I have posted links to this fast several times in the past, so I won't do it again, but feel free to research this claim yourself.

A species will always evolve, through the process of selective inheritance of advantageous genetic changes, which allow them to better adapt in their given environs. It is truly Nature's Way. Plants do it, birds do it, trees do it......even the honey bees do it! LOL

SS

oh........this link will explain how DEvolution is a biological impossibility, and how the notion of DEvolution is from the gitgo based on inaccurate and erroneous scientific premises....................

The way money is handed out puts pressure on labs to publish a lot of papers, breeds conflicts of interest, and encourages scientists to overhype their work.

This leads to bad science which then leads to the public not putting their trust in science.

Actually this lead to BOTH good and bad science. And scientists actually can only do so much to hype their work. Becasue through the process of Peer Review, the GOOD science will almost always win-out via utilization of the Empirical Method. That is to say: at the end of the day, the true facts will more often than not trump the spurious science, or the pseudo-science.

And the general public usually DOES put their trust in science. Since through good and proven and tested science we now have superior medical care; technology; and standards of living than we have ever had before. The few people who do NOT listen to science are usually the religious zealots, who distrust it because it often disproves or casts as highly-unlikely the doctrines they want to believe in.

News flash: you trust science every day! Every time you take a medication; drive your car; use your computer; flip a light switch; ride in a airplane; or climb a ladder you are trusting the science which developed and invented those products.

This is the reason that the Theists and especially the Young Earthers always make me laugh. They trust science and use it every day but when it comes to the hundreds of radiometric dating methods and all those anthropologists and Biologists and geologists who tell them the Earth is Billions and not thousands of years old...they all of a sudden claim science is ignorant.

Hypocrite much? LOL

Change the environment and you can change the science. If you want good science, create an environment where good science can thrive.

No thanks, the environment is just fine. I work in it every day. It is through competition and free exchange of our thoughts and ideas that the winnowing process that will eventually discern the TRUTH is driven and augmented.

The alternative to government NOT providing funding to science would actually hurt the scientific process. It would be throwing out the baby with the bathwater, so to speak. It would be severely curtailing a very productive and useful and necessary industry just because it is infested with a few bad apples.

History and especially economics have shown us that competition is a good thing. It improves quality. It is when their is NO competition, but rather a monopoly that the consumer--or YOU, the general public--are usually the ones hurt the most.

Hope this helps!

I don't understand what "trap" you think I "fell into."

Like I say, all gods are invented by ancient man. Belief in gods and supernatural forces is a undesirable by-product of the evolved homo sapien mind. A mind that became obsessed with seeking causes and reasons and meaning. And obsessed also with seeking patterns. Even when there are none.

This is why we get conspiracy theories, and reports of Jesus or the Virgin Mary appearing in somebody's toast, or in a wisp of smoke after a disaster, or what have you.

Seeking patterns once served ancient man well. In our hunter gatherer days, for example, when, say, our ancestors noticed that after a heavy rain some of the local game would come to newly-formed watering holes to drink. Thus making them easier prey for food.

But in today's society we are much further away from nature and from having to live by our primal wits. But those tendencies of our minds to seek causes have not gone away. So we have to think there is always a bigger and more grander and glorious reason out there for something. When often times...there is not. Just like when that wackjob evangelist claimed Katrina was god's punishment on the New Orleans sinners.

Really?

So....Slap Master falls into no traps. Rather, he is a keen student of the evolution of his species and also of the human mind. It's what I do, amigo. Let me know if I can help you out on this in the future.

Blacks and Browns of course are NOT usually conservative, But rather they be diggin a socialist democracy and a Nanny State Mentality like their boy Hussein Obama has been trying to instill for eight years now..

Asians are shitty drivers, of that there is no doubt. But did you now that they get fewer moving violations than whites, blacks OR browns? Yep. I have to disagree that peace is always an unatural state for us homo sapiens.

While it is indusputably true that our species has a long and bloody history of warring and violence, we also have just as long a history of peace and altruism. And philantrhopy.

So much so, in fact, that if you look at the 200,000 year history of homo sapiens on this planet, there has been far more perids of peace than of war and killing. I will go so far as to say that war often "punctuates" our periods of peace, but the latter still dominates.

I like unisex bathrooms.

Back when I was playing hockey at the University of Michigan one da after practice I went into this little staff bathroom that was next to the gym, to take a leak.

so I am doing my business and a chick walks in. another student. Cute, long brown hair, skinny, wearing gym shorts and a sports bra. said the womans was full so she dipped in here thinking nobody would be there, since it was a Staff BR.

so I laughed about it with her and then she recognized me as a hockey player, she saw our game then night before--where I got into a fight with a guy--and to make a long story shorter, I ended getting a very nice and very enthusiastic blowjob out of this whole thing.

So, yeah, wait! LOL. Unisex BR's rock! We need more of them.

I could give a shot about lines, I usually just cut to the front anyway if I don't feel like waiting.

You're correct, in that if it came down to intelligence of ability to produce heathy offspring, evolution will choose the latter every time. Well, choose is a bad word, as it implies the ability to decide. It will code for the offspring the and let the intelligence gene to be selected out. Or, switched off.

So it's a good thing this is not the case. Being smart takes no more energy than being obtuse. Indeed, it may require less since you would perhaps me more adept at making and using tools to make life easier.

There is no "dilemma" regarding the Theory of Evolution. It has been all but irrefutably proven to be true; it has NO serious or credible competitive theory to rival it; and it is believed by at least 90% of ALL professional Biologists and Anthropologists.

As far as god, what god? Thru the millennia mankind in his fear and ignorance has invented thousands of them. Maybe millions. And as far as science is concerned not one of them holds sway over the other and they are all equally as preposterous.

Stupid people? You'll have to be more specific. Stupid is a matter of opinion. We could go by IQ scores I suppose, and say that anybody below an 80 could be defined as stupid. So lets use this as a benchmark, shall we. Though I admit up front it is subjective.

Now then..............

as far as homo sapien adults in the world today, it is believed that less than 30% would score that low. Thus they are a minority. Thus since no god exists he cannot "favor" stupid people and anyway stupid people are in the minority.

I am guessing you just refer to people as stupid of they post things here that you do not like or agree with. Though I do admit that I have encountered several, oh, shall we say, "intellectually challenged" people here on CD. Most of them seem to be the religious zealots and the redneck reactionaries.

Hope this helps!

Alan Turing. He never got nearly the credit he deserved and was without a doubt the leading computer genius of his time. He was as responsible for helping us win WWII as any one man was. He pretty much invented the notion of the modern computer. Even back in the 1940s he wrote of the day when we would be walking around with hand-held computers. Back then in his time, computers like the ENIAC took-up entire rooms and weighed tons. So his was a remarkable vision.

I would pick his brain and see what he thought computers would evolve to. Before showing him. And his sheer delight and amazement at what they have become would be a delight to behold.

Thanks.

But did you know that Hitler had a tremendously bad flatulence problem? Exacerbated by stress, especially in the latter months of WWII, as well as all that speed and cocaine he took.

He would clear rooms, man. So I might re-think a convo with him. Or at least be sure to bring along a gas mask.

The former, Cardio-Pulmomary Resuscitation, is a method of preventing death to a person by infusing breath and oxygen into their body.

The latter is a sexual practice with dead people.

He is fine. Project Swiss Watch is fine as well, as far as he knows. He said they recently added another SCEL facility in Colorado. Somewhere near CO Springs, beneath a mountain out there. They are finding Thorium in the ground there, which as I said is a crucial element to power the TT equipment. It fuels some sort of reactor, I gather. Which powers the QM field to penetrate the wormholes.

Its not the fatty tissue that produces milk.

They are merely the vessels, the conduit thru which the milk is stored and passed.

The milk is caused, manufactured, by a physiological hormonal process. Which emanates from the placenta.

There has been much hoopla in the pop Psychology and metaphysics circles over the past decade or so about the nature of reality.

How do we really know what is real?

What is illusion?

We have only our five senses to use. And perhaps they are distorted? And limited, even skewed, because of our personal biases.

Plate even broached this notion thousands of years ago with his shadows on a cave wall analogy.

But, at the end of the day, it is z dead end road, a fruitless endeavor. To question reality.

Why?

Because we cannot alter it. Or alter how we percieve. We are stuck with our methods of input. That is our senses.

But since we evolved the way we did and are The Last Apes Standing out of all the two dozen other species or hominids, I would say our brains have done pretty good in discerning what is real.

Doubt me?

Go run through that brick wall! Tell yourself it is an illusion! Since in reality it is comprised of 90% empty space.

LOL

Or run that red light in traffic. Because, after all, color itself is an illusion. Whenever we see an object that appears to be a certain Color, it is, in reality, any color NOT that color, since what we are seeing is the wavelengths in the color spectrum bouncing OFF the object. Thus not on the object.

So where does all this doubting of reality get you?

I think our best bet is to know that what we percieve can be distorted and subject to perception. But to doubt the entirety of what we percieve to be Reality is a fruitless endeavor.

Thanks.

Well, first of all. I find this debate no more controversial or sexist or risque than most threads we have around here.

Or maybe you were just trying to call attention to it in your header?

Anyway,,, yeah, a good point is made.

Those freaks who dress up like women, like the one I had a pic of in a debate I did a couple days ago, are no more women than is a middle linebacker straight guy with the Chicago Bears.

They are just queers who want to play dress up for their gay ass potential lovers.

Period.

I speak of TGs here, btw, not transvestites, who are sometimes straight.

This remind me......me and Robyn went out to Chinese food last night.

No...not really.

Being an arrogant and sexist bad boy is pretty much my natural state.

When my fiance first met me, she hated me. Thought I was a conceited and rude jock. We met at a party after my hockey game.

But as time went be she came around.

Dumped her then time bf, who was an Art History major and looked like the dude in that pic above.

After our third date, when we had sex, she texted him from my bed, still sweating and naked and flushed after some good morning sex.

Told him she had to break their lunch date.

Broke up with him the next day.

What does all that tell you?

LOL

On a side note, I ran into the dude on campus about a week later.

He was crying. Wanted to fight me.

I couldn't do it. Too much of a Mismatch. I would hurt him badly.

But he DID make me mad. Em!barrassed me in front of people.

So I mailed him a par of her wet panties a few days later and said they were a gift from me, he could keep them as a memento.

A gift from me to show no hard feelings.

LOL

Man....when he told Robyn what I did she got SO mad at me she almost broke up with me.

But of course she did not.

What makes the world go 'round?

The gravitational pull of our nearest star, which is some 93 million miles away. It's gravitational attraction to our planet causes us to both rotate on a 22.4 degree axis--at the rate of one rotation every 24 hours--and also to orbit the star in an eccliptical orbit at the rate of one orbit every 365 days. A period of time that homo sapiens living on this planet refer to as a year.

Further, our rotation speed is about 1200 mph.

Our orbital speed is approx. 66,000 mph.

Additionally, our solar system and the Galaxy we reside in are also rotating around a giant Black Hole, approx. 50,000 light years away, which is at the center of our Galaxy.

Hope this helps.

I almost decided to major in Cosmology instead of Biology at one point. But in the end I felt I could do more good for fellow man in Biology.

You are obviously badly wanting in any knowledge of biology or cultural anthropology whatsoever. I also 're a deluded idiot and a bigot.

Listen and learn. The only reason most of the significant scientific discoveries and inventions throughout history were provided by those of Caucasian persuasion is because they had the means and opportunity. Much of this was provided to them by not sheer intelligence, but rather, geography. Since they had access to minerals and ores fro irons and steel and other metals so as to forge weapons and machinery. Thus providing them industry and military might with which to supress other poorer nations.

Again, blacks are blacks because of additional spin pigment. Last I checked, the epidermis has nothing to do with the central nervous system or the brain. Also, IQ tests in this country have been culturally biased in favor of middle class whites for decades. Ever since the traditional Stanford-Binet test was used as the primary yardstick back in the 1960s.

To me, as well as many other academics and those in the psychology field, intelligence is most accurately measured not by simply how well you can memorize answers to questions on a test, but rather, the ability to learn new tasks quickly and then perform them with a degree if efficiency.

IN this regard, Caucasians have no significant advantage of any other race. This has been tested many times.

Lastly, hate to break it to you, but the whole idea of race is a myth anyway. As we are all of ONE race and ALL share a common ancestor. Any difference in physiological aspects or brains or culture or skin and hair color has ben the result of the culture's specific history and practices and most important, geographical place of origin and progression.

I sometimes use the term "race" as a convenient and widely recognized descriptor for different ethnicity. But....it IS a fallacious term when using strict biological and anthropological statements. 95% of ALL professional scientists in the areas of Bio and Anthro know this. If you doubt me, do some checking and look it up.

Meanwhile, I offer you to learn something and read this. Let me know if you have any questions on this topic and I will be glad to help.

From a biological or anthropological point of view, this is an absurd question. The amount of melanin in one's epidermal layer has noting to do with the cognitive powers or their brain function.

In layman's terms: skin color has nothing to do with intelligence. If it did, then albinos would all be geniuses.

This debate reminds me of a funny story.

When I was doing undergrad Biology work I took a class in Computer Science. One of our projects made us create our own wireless network. Our own "hot spot."

So we of course had to give our Hot-spots a name and an icon link that the other students could access. To see if it worked.

We worked in two-man teams. My lab partner came up with what I think is an awesome WiFi Hotspot name. (not really a password, I guess. But I wanted to share this anyway.)

Our Network was called "Pretty Fly for a WiFi."

Nice, huh?

10 Ways Sikhism Differs From Islam........................

1. Origin:

Sikhism originated with the birth of Guru Nanak in Punjab circa 1469 and is based on the guru's writings and teachings. The Nanak philosophy "There is no Hindu, there is no Muslim," meaning all are spiritually equal was propagated by Guru Nanak born of a Hindu family and his spiritual companion Bhai Mardana born of a Muslim family on a series of mission tours. guru Nanak compiled writings of both Hidhu and Muslim saints which are included in Sikh scriptures.

Islam originated in 610 A.D. with Prophet Muhammad and the Quran (Koran). Islam's roots can be traced to about 2000 B.C in the Middle East to Ishmael the illegitimate son of Abraham's begotten with his first wife Sarah's handmaiden, Hagar given to Abraham by Sarah "to be his wife." (Genesis 16:2) Because Hagar despised and mocked her mistress, at Sarah's behest, Hagar and her son Ishmael at age 16 were cast out after Abraham and his wife Sarah produced their legitimate son and heir Isaac. (Genesis 21:9-10)

Abraham grieved at the loss of Ishmael and was promised by God to bless Ishmael "son of the bondwoman...because he is thy seed." (Genesis 21:13) God promised to make Ishmael the father of "princes...and a great nation." (Genesis 17:20)

Ishmael fathered 12 sons "by name, by town, and by castles, according to their nations" (Genesis 25:12-17):

Nebajoth

Kedar

Adebeel

Mibsam

Mishma

Dumah

Massa

Hadar

Tema

Jetur

Naphish

Kedemah

The Islamic scripture Quran does not refer to Ishmael's mother by name. The Quran tells that Ishmael and his father Abraham built the Ka'aba of Makkah (Mecca) the center of Islam at the site of spring Zamzam where Allah provided water to Ishmael and his mother when they were alone in the desert. Over the centuries, the Ka'aba fell into the hands of idol worshiping pagans.

In 630 A.D. Prophet Muhammad re-established leadership in Mecca and rededicated the Ka'aba to worship of one God Allah.

(Islamic Quran Sura may conflict with (Genesis 15-25) Jewish Torah / Christianity Old Testament.)

2. Deity:

Sikhs believe in Ik Onkar, one creator who is present in all of creation. Sikhs refer to God as Waheguru.

Muslims profess belief in Allah and his prophet Mohammad.

3. Scripture:

Sikhs accept the scripture of Siri Guru Granth Sahib as the living word of their Guru or Enlighter. The Guru Granth offers instruction and guidance on how to achieve humility and overcome egoism to illuminate and liberate the soul from the bondage of spiritual darkness.

Muslims follow the scripture of the Quran believing it to be the word of God as revealed to the Prophet Mohammad by the Angel Gabriel.

4. Fundamental Principles:

Sikhism practices include:

Three pillars or fundamental principles:

Meditation.

Honest earning.

Sharing resources and performing community service.

Five essentials beliefs in:

One Creator.

Ten Gurus of history.

Scripture of Guru Granth.

Ten guru's teachings.

Initiation rites of Tenth Guru.

Five articles of faith worn on the body by initiates:

Unshorn hair beard and turban.

Wooden comb.

Steel bracelet.

Ceremonial short sword.

Specially designed undergarment.

Islamic practices include:

Five pillars or fundamental principles:

Testimony

Prayer

Pilgrimage

Charity

Fasting

Six articles of faith and belief in:

Sole deity Allah.

Angelic beings.

Prophets of old.

Scripture of Quran.

Resurrection and afterlife.

Destiny and fate as Allah's will.

5. Worship:

Sikhs worship in the gurdwara. Services include langar free food from the guru's kitchen. Sikhs begin the day with meditation and recite daily prayers in the morning, evening and at bedtime.

Muslims worship in the mosque and recite prayers five times daily.

6. Conversion:

Sikhism does not practice proselytism, nor seek to convert, but accepts anyone who chooses to be initiated regardless of background. Sikhism believes in defending the oppressed against tyranny of forced conversion, by peaceful means, or taking up arms should negotiations fail.

Islam has a history of forced conversion with either payment of Jizia tax or enforced fight for property and life upon refusal. Sharia law is still followed by modern day fundamentalist extremists in the Middle East.

7. Appearance:

Sikhism Keshdhari devotees and Armitdhari initiates do not cut or remove hair from the body face or scalp. Devout Sikh men and some women wear religiously mandated turbans in a variety of styles to cover and protect unshorn hair.

Muslim male devotees may wear a turban, or fez, and grow a beard, but generally do not keep hair intact on the scalp or body. Women devotees may wear hijab to cover hair on the head, or burqa to cover the body. Women generally remove facial and body hair. Islamic religious headgear is predominately worn in the Middle East, increasingly in Europe, but is rarely worn in the United States.

I hope to have made a LOT of enemies in the non-secular arena by then.

LOL

1 point

Oh, I did.

Including this admission....................... "Even though the DNA sequences themselves don’t change, epigenetic changes can sometimes be passed down to offspring. The extent of this inheritance is debated."

I simply do not agree with the authors' interpretation of the genetic coding and DNA (actually, rNA). They observed chemical replications and genetic alteration, as well as inheritance, sure. We know this happens. But the authors then opinionated on what this means for us. We all know that homo sapiens have aggressive tendencies at times. It's how we got to the top of the food chain.

I just think the article's conclusion was a bit spurious. Pop psychology. My opinion.

2 points

No. The homo sapien brain, or mind, does not work that way.

We do of course inherit genes--including the DNA coding for the brain's cells--from our ancestors, but they are devoid of any sort of memories. I believe the idea of "inherited memory" was called "memes" and it was bandied about by a few psychologists and neuro-biologists back in the 90s, for a while, before falling out of favor.

Don't quote me but I think it mighta been Daniel Dennet who ascribed to this idea. And my man Richard Dawkins was always totally against it. And then in his book "The Selfish Gene" pretty much conclusively shot down DD's hypothesis.

All of our memories are created from our mind from the experiences we have. Our senses take them in, and then the mind stores them, for later retrieval if they're needed. This is how we learn. The mind is pretty much a feedback loop. Not unlike sophisticated computer software, but with countless apps. LOL.

Your idea about the inherited memory from ancestors was once used--maybe still is--by some folks who wanted to explain the phenomenon we call Deja Vu'. (French for "seen again.) We have all had it: you're in a typical conversation or in a place you never been before and you're struck with the nagging idea that you have experienced this before! Or been to that place, even though you have not.

Well, some guys said that we got the Deja Vu because we were tapping into an old memory from our ancestors. That was rattling around in our brain, deposited there from inheriting their memes.

This idea has fallen WAY out of favor with neurologists. We are now almost certain that Deja Vu is caused by a misfiring of the brain's recognition cells, after the optic nerve sees something and sends that image, or sound, to the brain. The regular order of "sensing and then storing into memory" is somehow glitched, for a micro-second, so that you feel as if you remembered this input twice.

Think of this as a sort of "pixelation" of the brain, like when you see a little video breakup for one second while watching a DVD. That is basically what is going on with Deja Vu.

Hey! Great post though. I love these psychology-related and neuro-science topics. Thanks!

Like all things, the media and the opposing ideological factions tend to over-play the particular faction of any one group which will seem most controversial and garner the highest ratings. So the right-wingers rail against the lazy who game the system. Just like the lefties claim that all of the wealthy are tax-dodging, cruel and selfish greed-heads who came by their wealth through corrupt means. Instead of good old hard-work.

OK. Fair enough. I will grant you that calling any of those people what I had in my list would be rude. And know that I don't do it. Well, not very often.

Sorry about my misunderstanding in the indigenous thing. I respect the fact your family does not exploit the welfare system. And I hope things begin to look-up for you guys. Godspeed. I wish poverty on nobody who actually wants to improve their station.

Yeah, I know how to spell lesbian. It was a typo. Obviously. But thanks for pointing it out.

As far as the rest of your post, thanks for your commentary but you will recall that the PC labels and MY definition of them were, well, just that: mine.

So if you took offense to some of them, well, I get that. The fact that you are indigenous explains a lot, BTW. since it hints to the fact that you are in all likelihood a Nanny State and Entitlement State advocate. Thus, a member of the liberal PC group I was railing against in the first place.

How does one be indigenous and not homeless, btw? Just curious. Community shelter?

Oh, I agree. As a runner I DO tend to talk about it at the slightest chance. Not so much to brag, of course--since there are plenty of runners out there better than me, but rather in the hopes that somebody else is also a runner and we can discuss it.

Exactly!

I should be used to it by now, but their smugness continues to annoy me to no end.

Especially when in reality they have precious little to be smug about.

But it's because their false belief systems act as a sort of emotional placebo. A psychological sugar pill, if you will. In reality, it is nothing, but the person who takes it thinks they are being helped.

Same deal.

Never had an std in my life. Also, true to typical religious zealot hypocrisy, you attack my personal life if which you know nothing. Apparently less than nothing.

As I said, so very mundane and typical of your breed. Y'all are totally and hopelessly unable to answer ANY of my dozens of previous questions, so you turn the tables and attack.

WWJD, numb nuts?

LOL

.....and I suppose that perhaps the saddest thing about your station in life--I mean, aside form the fact you are an unemployed, deranged, delusional religoius zealot for whom his sky god has done nothing--is the fact that Jesus, and god, IF they existed, would in all likelihood value ME more than you.

LOL.

Here's why................

Jesus talks many times in the Gospel accounts of how he and his Daddy abhor the sanctimonious. The False Prophets. The people, like the Pharisees and the Sadducee, who think they know the Truth and lord it over the rabble. JC once said that judgement for them will be far worse than for the sinners.

Like me. I am a true prodigal son. Your boy JC and Yah-Yah love ME so much that Jesus spoke an entire parable about me.

Did he ever do one for you?

I think not.

How's THAT make yo feel?

Ten bucks and my left nut say JC prefers my company over yours.

Oh, I've met a few christians who know their bible, but very very few, if any, who know the background and history of it--that is, who really wrote it and when and why--as do I. An Atheist.

LOL.

I look at this as a sort of example of "knowing your enemy."

I openly challenge any christian reading this to a private debate on the history of the bible. Not, mind you, simply parroting the chapter and verses, but rather, explaining who wrote them and why.

Like that the whole Jesus 3-day dead deal is only an offshoot of the Jonah in the belly of the whale. Or how the 12 apostles simply mimick the 12 tribes. Or how the Exodus NEVER HAPPENED. Or how Genesis was never meant to be taken literal. (The Creation account.)

Or how it was a good 15 YEARS after Saul was blinded by the light on the Road to Damascus before he wrote his first epistle. Or how Paul was a homosexual. Or how he only wrote 3-4 of the letters originally attributed to him.

OR..now for the big kahuna, it is VERY likely that Jesus never existed, as ANY writings or mention of him from Secular sources is extremely limited. And since Yeshua was a common name (means "God is with us") even those scant accounts could be talking about another person, and not the JC we know from the bible.

LOL.

Guidebook, eh?

Heaven?

Hmmm...interesting.

Perhaps you can explain to me then, how a book that is chock-filled with evil and murderous stories of wanton violence and bloodshed and slaughter and evil, like those in this link, could ever be construed as any sort of guidebook?

LOL
