In your scenario, the teacher acted poorly. To obtain a socialist grade system, the teacher would need to respond in a manner that is true to socialist ideals. In that, I mean the teacher should have focused on properly educating the F student. And by not disiplining the faliure of the student, the student does not feel as though the system is against him/her.
