Take at good look at Finland the first country in Europe to promote the idea of a universal basic income to everyone irrespective of whether they are working or not.
Will be interesting to see how it works out .... and how those not working manage to fill the hours of their days ?
The reality is that we have been here many times before as science and technology have dragged us kicking and screaming into the future.
Look back when the horse and cart were replaced by mechanized vehicles and then the industrial revolution that put thousands of factory workers out of work replaced by machines, agricultural practices made the farm labourer and the horse extinct with the evolution of the tractor and mechanized food production.
There are so many examples of huge changes in the workforce over time, and we are about to go through yet another one, this time with a much larger global population.
We accumulate our opinions from a variety of sources, sometimes without questioning the validity of the information and thereby assume we have gained knowledge which may be true or false.
It takes critical intelligence to differentiate between the two and the necessity to change our minds.
Humanity cannot live in a vacuum so we invented the "File Box" so we can neatly label people, by their opinions, habits, interests, way of life, employment, etc etc
Ipso facto everyone gets put into a box and then human animals can feel comfortable with the other people in their box and try to get other people in other boxes to join them so they feel even more comfortable and have the biggest box.
As we continue to discuss a fictional philosophical scenario the problem with your synopsis of an incident does not allow for the possibility that by the time we have driver-less cars we will also have passenger safety pods within all vehicles that will totally protect all inside from injury so the car will be able to be involved in a crash scenario without doing any harm to anyone...?
Yes the laws are fictional but have rationality in this fictitious premise that the car would be unable to destroy itself or any of the human beings.
The idea that a driverless car would kill its passengers is also a purely fictitious philosphical ideation, like Science Fiction, that would mean that the car has self awareness to decide whether to kill the pedestrians or the passengers.
Either way neither event could possibly exist because it would be essential that driverless cars would be programmed to cease to function in the case of a failure or impending adverse event.
We already are.
We are constantly changing minutely all the time and we can measure this over time by looking at the same people over several generations.
Medical science is constantly improving and gene shearing and genetic engineering have been around for quite a while now. Eventually we will be able to have a simple blood test at birth and potential future medical conditions will be able to removed. When we can use RNA molecules to shear cancer causing genetic material that will be a big step.
Its all only just around the corner.
So far we have always managed to stop ourselves falling off the cliff and pulling back from the brink, so it appears we manage crises quite well and it is "normality", whatever that is, we seem to have difficulty with.
So in the meantime as long as we keep on keeping on we'll be around for a lot longer following the boom and bust trajectory until we work something else out that works a bit better.
This is one of the most interesting components of the complexity of being human. Whilst you have often made very interesting comments you often read into my comments implications that are simply not there and you appear to argue for arguments sake so in future I will accept your comments in good faith and simply move on.
This is one of those occasions.
